Student Journalists Get Published on the Web

Article excerpt

Highwired.Net is an online service that helps high schools create and publish their student newspapers on the Internet. Offered by Highwired Network, Inc., this service allows educators to provide students with an Internet publishing endeavor without the need to know HTML, receive training or read manuals. This service is free to schools across the U.S. and abroad. Because there is no software or programming involved, teachers and students spend their time working together to craft copy, explore story lines and check facts.

Schools can publish their online papers as often as they like, whether it is once a quarter or every day. Using Highwired.Net, students post articles to their customized paper from any Web browser. Journalism advisers have the option to review and approve articles for publication. Student articles are posted to a private staging area for review and only the adviser or designated student editor can access this area to approve stories for live publication.
