McDonald (1935-2012) was chair of the department of history at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, executive director of the East Texas Historical Association (ETHA), and editor of the East Texas Historical Journal. This memoir came from oral interviews with Dan K. Utley from March through May 2011. McDonald recalls his rich relationships with numerous individuals through the ETHA, as president of the Texas State Historical Association, and as a member of other state historical organizations and boards. Every endeavor involved McDonald and at least one other person, none more so than his wife of fifty-four years, Judy Barrett McDonald.
