The NLN Board of Governors met November 13-14 in New York City. According to CEO Ruth Corcoran, the meeting had "historic importance" and set "the NLN agenda that will evolve over the next two years." President Rhetaugh G. Dumas facilitated the meeting, achieving nearly unanimous consensus on almost every issue.

The Board accepted and unanimously approved the comprehensive recommendations from counsel that will lead to alignment and consistency within and between the bylaws and structures of the National League for Nursing, the Community Health Accreditation Program, and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Of particular importance was a unanimous decision to establish NLNAC as a wholly owned subsidiary corporation of the NLN as of January 1, 2001. A specific business plan will be developed to ensure that the NLNAC is self-sustaining by that time.

In the intervening two years, the NLNAC will continue to receive an operational grant from the NLN. Members of the NLN will continue to contribute to the accreditation process and to the future of nursing accreditation by setting and defining accreditation standards and by electing the NLNAC Board of Commissioners. …
