State of the Science Conference

NLN is one of 14 scholarly nursing organizations that are sponsoring the National Nursing Research Conference: State of the Science, to held in Washington, DC, September 15-19, 1999. Multiple goals for the conference are:

* To identify areas in nursing research with substantive growth in the 1990s.

* To project future research directions and applications and serve as a forum for developing research agendas.

* To critique the scope and development of the current state of the science.

* To disseminate innovations to clinicians.

Identifying Priority Research Needs

NLN is in the process of identifying priority research needs for nursing education through the efforts of a panel established by the Board of Governors. President Rhetaugh Dumas appointed the members of the Blue Ribbon Pane] on Priorities for Research in Nursing Education to represent a cross section of nursing leadership. Kathleen Stevens, EdD, RN, FAAN, of the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, is chair.

According to Ruth Corcoran, CEO, the work of the panel will immediately inform NLN faculty development efforts, along with NLN's processes for accreditation of nursing education. …
