Hello. My name is Dharma and I would like to tell you a little bit about our painting called 'Sensory Overload'.

This was a collaborative project worked on by the Master Class students in years 7 and 8 and was designed to give us experience in sharing ideas and working together as a team.

This project involved three main parts ...

* Establishing a theme

* Deciding on a painting style and technique and

* Working collaboratively.

As our focus this year has been on words and communication, we started by brainstorming how teenagers communicate, the messages that they send and receive every day and the different ways that this happens.

We came up with ideas about pressures and expectations, advertising and manipulation, the impact of social media, friends and family, body image and the environment.

We came up with dozens of often conflicting ideas about the messages that bombard us from all directions. The sheer number was quite overwhelming ... .and in the end, this is what 'morphed' into our central idea.

We attempted to convey this idea by surrounding our figure with all sorts of messages, both written and visual.

The style of our painting is very graphic. We attempted to base it on advertising techniques such as using simple, emotive language, big, bold text and a limited colour scheme. …
