David and Kim Homuth are vice-presidents for Amsouth Bank, Birmingham, Ala., and big believers in the power of relationships. They'd better be...they're married. That belief has cemented their teamwork in management of the bank's residential lending for its Naples and Marco Island markets on Florida's southwestern coast, and it has helped them do more for clients.

"Although we are officially in the business of selling mortgages, we consistently track our clients shifting requirements [in order to offer] all of the bank's services," says Kim Homuth, who, with her husband, practices the holistic, "life cycle" approach to selling often preached in the industry.

Both became Amsouth employees last year, after the $20 billion-assets institution acquired Barnett, where husband and wife originally met, and, had teamed up at various points in their careers.

Kim now works about 20 miles south of her husband and handles general market inquiries, leaving him to specialize in high-net worth customers. …
