The Essential Elements of Motivation for Students and Teachers

Interestingly, some say that teachers are at fault for the problems that we are currently experiencing in our nation's schools. Others say that students are really to blame, while still others argue that everyone simply lacks the motivation to improve the prevailing situation. Perhaps they are all right, or perhaps no one is right, but if we wish to correct this situation there is one thing for sure, i.e., that all three factors need to be understood by everyone involved, and that everyone (i.e., students and teachers alike) must do their part to improve this situation. The present brief note actually outlines how this can best be achieved since it systematically provides the essential elements (or the A, B, C's) concerning these three key factors. As these elements are taken to heart, and implemented accordingly, the problems in academia today should give way to greater successes as we enter our next century of academic endeavors.


M ME ... It all starts and stops with ME!

O OPPORTUNITY ... Never worry about whether you have a good opportunity, just be sure that you're good to every OPPORTUNITY!

T TIME ... Time is finite, and not infinite. So isn't it about TIME to do it, do it right, and do it right now!

I INCENTIVE ... Only if we value something will it serve as an INCENTIVE.

V VISION ... That which is enVISiONed is more readily achieved. So, too, if we aim at nothing, we'll probably hit it.

A ATTITUDE ... According to Henry Ford, "If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're absolutely right." In other words, ATTITUDE is everything!

T TAKE CHARGE ... Remember that you may not be responsible for what happens to you, but you are responsible for how you deal with what happens to you. So, TAKE CHARGE, and do it now!

I INTERESTED ... Nothing happens until we are INTERESTED in what's supposed to happen. …
