After more than twenty-five years of existence, the Evangelical Community for Apostolic Action (Communaute Evangelique d'Action Apostolique, CEVAA) has had an important debate in recent years about its aims and means, leading to a process of restructuring and a new statement of its objectives. The following "charter" was formulated following thorough work done during the 1998 session of the CEVAA Council meeting at Cret-Berard, Switzerland. It was published this year by the secretariat. The charter of CEVAA

Living in the Pacific, in Europe, in Latin America and in Africa, we are a community of Protestant churches and movements in mission.

We belong to a world ridden by injustice, violence and uncertainty. We believe that there is an expectation in this world for the Gospel as a source of life, of faith, of resistance and of love.

We believe that God is our partner in this world. He is going on before us. With Jesus, the man from Nazareth, he walks with us on the paths of human beings to "rebuild broken walls and restore houses in ruins." (Isaiah 58:13)

Theological empowerment is to hope for a world according to God's dream. This is for us a principle of community life, a way in which to be listening together to God's Word. …
