"Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" is a euphemism for "six degrees" of separation within the film industry, referring to the notion that any two people are six or fewer connections from one another--in this case, Kevin Bacon. A different Kevin, proves this point: In November of 2017 Metropolitan State University's School of Urban Education hosted Kevin Kumashiro as a panelist for "A Panel Discussion on the Model Minority Stereotype and Asian American Masculinity in a Post-Truth, #MeToo, #BLM Moment." He gave the audience so many wonderful things to think about that he was later hired as a consultant by the School of Urban Education's Dean to lead a professional development to help the unit plan a strategic vision.

The editors of The Journal of Educational Foundations are delighted that Kevin is, again, connected to Metropolitan State University, Saint Paul, which hosts the journal. Erica Davila and Jody M. Luna have assembled an important special issue on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and its connection to issues of social justice. As Kevin writes in the foreword to this special issue, he points out that the papers which became articles in this issue were originally presented at the 7th International Conference on Education and Social Justice, held December 1-3, 2017 in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

We encourage others, who attend conferences, to submit proposals for special issues so long as they focus on topics and themes that center social justice, foundations of education, and citizen scholarship. …
