We all know that Alexander Graham Bell said, "Watson! Come here! I need you! "However, very few people know what Bell said to Watson when he came into the office. Here's how I think the conversation went.

The great inventor would have said, "Watson, I've just invented the telephone. 1 can see this instrument revolutionizing the world. I can see the telephone ... heck, Watson, let's call it the telecommunications industry ... attracting some of the brightest, most energetic and talented people on the face of the earth. And, you know, Watson, they'll be the kind of people who won't be able to rest until they've helped create an even better world.

"Watson, I can see you one day becoming a Telephone Pioneer! I can see you going into schools; I can see you volunteering in the community. Why, Watson, I can even see you getting involved in Kindergartners Count and the "I LIKE ME!" program.

At the American Association of School Administrators, like Watson and like each of you, we've gotten the call. Our members, and there are about 14,000 of them, are school superintendents, other central administrators and some school principals. We have state associations in all 50 states and we have members around the world. …
