Hats off to the Retired Members

It was wonderful to see so many of our retired members at the 1996 Annual International Conference in Minneapolis. These "retired" members are active, dedicated supporters of ACEI who are visible in almost every phase of our organization. Many still serve on committees,participate in programs and workshops, work with student teachers, write articles for the Exchange and are available to assist wherever needed. It is impossible to share the many ways these dedicated members are still serving in their own states and communities.

ACEI recently organized a Retired Members Committee to recognize these members. Many have long known that retirees continue to attend conferences even after their classroom work is finished. The workshop needs and interests of these special members are somewhat different from those teachers still in the classroom. Thus, ACEI is striving not only to involve them in the workshops of their choice, but also to offer special sessions that provide an outlet for their interests, ideas and enthusiasm, and provide a sense of camaraderie.

We believe that the new committee serves ACEI in three ways: preserving the past, promoting the present and projecting the future. We plan to coordinate with the Heritage Committee in preserving the past of our organization. …
