In October we held our annual Young Historian's Awards evening at the Viscount Gort. It was attended by sixty-seven members of the general public and seven members of the Manitoba Historical Society. Those in attendance were treated to enthusiastic and well-prepared speeches on Portage and Main and the issues attached to opening it, to a history of the Greek Community in Manitoba, to a history of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and to the histories of Mennonites in Manitoba and the Grey Nuns. The excellence of the presentations reflects hard work and dedication on the parts of the presenting students, ages eleven to fifteen, to their passion for the history of our province, and to the support of their teachers, their schools, and their families. Each of the participants received a gift certificate from McNally Robinson, a certificate from the MHS, and a MHS membership.

You will, if you are internet connected, have received our "Manitoba Alive" newsletter. Evidently between sixty-five and seventy-five percent of recipients read it, which, when the national average is less than three percent, is most rewarding. …
