ABSTRACT: At the request of the officer in charge of housing at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Roll and Nichols investigated haunting-type occurrences in a duplex occupied by a sergeant, his wife, and their three young sons. The phenomena, which had been experienced by all members of the family, included footsteps, flickering of lamp bulbs, tactile hallucinations, and strange behavior by their two dogs. The next-door neighbors--a military policeman and his family--heard footsteps and the sounds of human traffic from the other side of the duplex, including at times when it was empty. During a three-day investigation in March 1999, we discovered a high geomagnetic field (GMF) covering about a third of the structure. The field extended across the road, enveloping another duplex. The occupants of the second structure, however, experienced few, if any, anomalous effects. …
