Free: "Guide for Preventing and Responding to School Violence," created by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the Department of Defense, is intended as a tool for communities to use to construct their own preventive and response measures. The document will be distributed to police chiefs and sheriffs throughout the United States, who will be encouraged to reproduce and distribute the document to public and private schools within their jurisdictions. It is also available on the IACP Web site at http://www.theiacp.org (from the home page, go to Publications/Private Sector Liaison Committee).

Essay/Art contest for kids who want more fun, less stuff, sponsored by the Center for a New American Dream and Citizens Funds, gives children under age 17 the opportunity to creatively express their non-material wants and desires. To enter, contestants must write a short essay (250 words or less) or create a piece of artwork that answers the question: "What do you really want that money can't buy?" Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded--one for artwork and one for an essay. The winning entries will be posted at www.newdream.org and in Enough!, the Center's quarterly publication.
