A portion of this volume addresses the special topic of welfare reform research. The section is introduced by the Colston E. Warne Lecture.

* The welfare reform articles are keynoted by publication of a manuscript based on the 1999 Colston E. Warne Lecture delivered by Sheldon Danziger, whose name is familiar to most readers as the former Director of the Poverty Institute at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. The Warne Lecture was presented March 1999 at the annual meeting of the American Council on Consumer Interests, Chicago, IL.

* Joyce E. Jones, Executive Associate Editor, has served as Guest Associate Editor for the welfare reform focused manuscripts in this issue: Summer 2000, Volume 34, Number 1. Joyce's support and assistance have been especially helpful during the review, revision, and selection process for the welfare reform manuscripts.

* A special thanks also goes to the special reviewers who gave their time, effort, and expertise as the welfare reform manuscripts were refereed. They, along with other special reviewers, will be acknowledged in the Winter 2000 issue (Volume 34, Number 2).

I am appreciative of the good work of so many people. The Journal of Consumer Affairs has, in addition to the editor, nine associate editors, forty-nine members of the editorial board, sixteen to twenty special reviewers, a technical editor, and an office manager. …
