Interagency Council on Information Resources for Nursing

Article excerpt

The 21st edition of the interagency Council on Information Resources for Nursing's biennial list is presented as a resource for collection development and for use in locating nursing information. The list includes print, multimedia, and electronic sources to support nursing practice, education, administration, and research activities. The editors have made a concerted effort to include the most recent editions of titles in print and to evaluate electronic sources. Price, publisher, and supplier information can be obtained by consulting standard print sources such as Medical and Health Care Books and Serials in Print (New Providence, NJ, Bowker), Encyclopedia of Associations (Detroit, Gale Research), and individual websites.

As in previous editions, the list includes a supplement of Canadian sources.

Clinician Reviews. 1991-. Summarizes articles from the medical literature, selected for nurse practitioners and physician's assistants. Most contents available online at public/journal.ClinReviews.html.

Evidence-Based Nursing. 1998-. Each issue of this journal presents several summaries of research articles and systematic reviews of interest to nursing. The journal is described on the Internet at data/ebn.htm with a link to the online table of contents for the current issue. Summaries are indexed in the CINAHL database with publication types Journal Article, Abstract, and Commentary.

Medscape-Nursing. Available at nursing/nursing.html. Includes summaries of articles from the medical literature plus full-text articles from Medscape journals such as Medscape Women's Health.

RNdex Top 100. Listed here because it includes original or author abstracts for all indexed titles, including structured abstracts for research articles. See Computerized Databases section for full information.

In addition to sources listed above, many nursing journals publish abstracts of research reported in other journals or presented at conferences. These abstracts are indexed in the CINAHL database with Abstract as the publication type. Author abstracts for journal articles are included in most online databases. Also, many electronic journal collections available via the Internet include journal article abstracts. As an example, see the Lippincott journal collection at
