Executive Leadership Institute CEO Retreat Girdwood, Alaska

Karen Perdue commissioner of Alaska's Department of Health and Human Services, and William Waldman, executive director of APHSA, toured the community health center in the Native Alaskan village of Tyonek. Angie Constantine a community health aide for the village, shows them the health care manuals she uses to make decisions about medical care in the remote village in southeastern Alaska.

Gary Stangler director of Missouri's Department of Social Services, receives the Lead Dog Award ("because from the back of the pack, the view never changes") from Perdue. Stangler was attending his last APHSA event as Missouri's director. He retired last September and is consulting for the Annie E. Casey Foundation. To receive the award, Stangler dressed like a dog musher. The outfit was courtesy of dog musher Linda Chamberlain (not shown), who is also a domestic violence specialist at Alaska's Department of Health and Human Services.
