NEHA Past President Chris Wiant to Head New Foundation in Colorado

The newly created Caring for Colorado Foundation has named Chris Wiant, Ph.D., as its president. The $155 million charitable foundation was formed from the sale of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Colorado. In 2001, the foundation will allocate approximately $7 million in health-related grants throughout Colorado.

Before Chris's new duties began in October 2000, he was executive director of Tri-County Health Department in Colorado, a position he had held since 1997. Altogether, he had been with Tri-County Health for 16 years, previously as deputy director and as director of environmental health services. Tri-County Health Department serves the 986,000 residents of Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas counties in Colorado.

"Dr. Wiant's role as the president of Caring for Colorado Foundation will be to implement the foundation's mission to serve the health care needs of all Colorado citizens," according to Don Hoagland, chairman of the board of directors. The foundation has held community meetings throughout the state to get local perspectives on how it can best serve each community. …
