Another Stop in Life's Journey. From the politically charged atmosphere at the university of Nairobi Law School, to the quiet of the English countryside, on to bagels and snowstorms in Montreal, soon thereafter being touched by the warmth of the Carolina sun, finally ending up in the middle of Harvard Square; my journey in the quest for knowledge has taken me far away from friends and family in my native country, Kenya. But the rewards have been many. I have had the extraordinary privilege of meeting and learning from remarkable people along the way.

Still, my exciting journey continues and has now led me to The Hastings Center. During a short visit last year as an international research scholar, I fell in love with the peace and tranquility surrounding the Center, complemented by the vibrant energy of the Center staff. (I suppose the breathtaking view of the Hudson played a minor role!) When I set off from Kenya, I had no idea that the road would lead to a quaint research center in Garrison, New York. In the words of Douglas Adams, "I may not have gone where I intended to be, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be."

My arrival at the Center in September was accompanied by a hubbub of activity. A lot was happening--visiting scholars, project meetings under way, new staff members on orientation, and preparations for the annual fellows meeting. …
