The 73d annual meeting of the International Association of Defense Counsel will be held from Saturday, July 1, through Saturday, July 8, at the elegant Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The week will offer a balance of business and pleasure, as continuing legal education programs and committee meetings are combined with a croquet tournament, golf, tennis, talent viewing and other activities.

Once again, the IADC offers quality CLE programs and renowned speakers. Beginning Monday, July 3, major CLE programs will feature such topics as damages and how to argue them effectively, with particular attention to future economic damage claims by the catastrophically injured; specific Internet rules in the various states and to what extent the rules of general advertising and solicitation are used, as well as what is required to satisfy these rules in various situations; the latest rulings since Kumho Tire and various procedures to present a challenge to plaintiff's expert.

The Open Forum, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, July 6 and 7, will showcase a variety of pertinent issues, such as techniques for surviving the changing practice of law in the new millennium and new and effective ways to sell your defense and persuade your jury with graphics. Not to be missed is "Law Office 2010--See the Future Today!" an interactive program featuring IADC members in conjunction with Microsoft Corp. and other hi-tech vendors, demonstrating a state-of-the-art law firm and the newest technological innovations as they will exist in the next decade.

Also of interest are the Barristers' Luncheon and Program (formerly the Advocacy Luncheon) on Monday, July 3, and the Lifestyles Series program on Tuesday, July 4. Standing and substantive law committees will meet Monday through Friday, with several committees' programs qualifying for CLE.

Attendees will find the week packed with a wide range of leisure and social activities, commencing on Sunday, July 2, with an "Allegheny Mountain Welcome," the traditional welcome reception. …
