This is the final issue of Newspaper Research Journal produced from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. It's been 12 years of a mixture of frustration and blessing, but mostly the latter, and we thank all of those who made it possible and contributed to whatever success NRJ has enjoyed.

As the person listed as editor, I am particularly indebted to many folks who volunteered their time, talent and wisdom. The list is long, but permit me to express my respect and appreciation to many of them.

Thanks to those in the Newspaper Division -- officers and members -- who expressed their confidence in our work by granting us the dozen years in which the journal came to you from Ohio.

`Truly, the unsung heroes of NRJ are those scholars and professionals from around the country who served on the Editorial Board. They're listed elsewhere in this edition, and I want them to know the depth of our debt to them. They have contributed mightily to improvement of the substance of this publication, and it's been a pleasure working with them.

Among these folks is founding editor Gerald Stone, who gave us a solid foundation on which to work and carried forth as a member of the board. Also, I truly appreciate the contributions of those who have accepted various responsibilities for NRJ production: Ron Pittman, David C. Nelson, Ted Pease, Marilyn Greenwald, Tom Hodges, Jennifer McGill, Richard Burke, Diane Campbell, Jackie Bennett-Hanning and those graduate students who served as business managers/assistant production editors. …
