FORMING A MORE PERFECT UNION, the 81st NCSS Annual Conference, is still scheduled for November 16-18, 2001. Despite heightened security our Nation's Capital is open for business--monuments, museums and Federal buildings are all operating normally. Please allow plenty of time when entering the city by car and visiting Federal Buildings where you'll probably need a photo ID.

New security procedures in and around Washington have created commuting delays, but the transportation options are wide and varied. Read on for a list of travel possibilities!

Plane

The official air carrier for the conference is Delta Air Lines. Reduced rates are available for conference attendees. Restrictions do apply. Call Delta Meeting Network reservations at 1-800-241-4760, weekdays 7:30am-11:00pm, ET. Or, have your travel agent call Delta to obtain these same advantages for you. Please refer to file number 178305A.

Washington, D.C. is currently served by three airports: Washington Reagan National (DCA), Washington Dulles (IAD) and Baltimore Washington (BWI). Delta Air Lines services all of these airports. All airports offer easy shuttle service by van, train, and subway to the conference.

Washington Reagan National

National Airport is in Virginia, approximately 10 minutes from downtown Washington.

* By Subway: The baggage claim area is on the bottom floor of the airport. The Metro station is located across from the top floor via pedestrian bridges. If your destination is the Marriott Wardman Park or the Omni Shoreham, take the Yellow Line in the direction of Mt. Vernon Square. Exit the train at Gallery Place/Chinatown station. While still in the station, go up one level, and catch the Red Line train in the direction of Shady Grove. Exit the train at Woodley Park/Zoo/Adams Morgan. This station is located just outside the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

* By SuperShuttle: Collect your baggage and follow signs for ground transportation leading you directly to the SuperShuttle boarding area located on the lower level, outside at the curb. There will be a uniformed Guest Service Representative who will assist with baggage and boarding. After 12:00am, call (703) 416-7884.

Washington Dulles International

Dulles Airport is in Virginia, approximately 30 minutes from downtown Washington.

* By Subway: Washington Flyer shuttle buses and taxicabs link Dulles to the West Falls Church Metro station. Take the Orange line train in the direction of New Carrollton. Exit the rain at Metro Center station. On the upper level of the station, catch the Red line train in the direction of Shady Grove. …
