The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools has awarded its 2001 International Distinguished Leadership Award to the Honorable Syringa Marshall Burnett, CD, MA, BAScN, President of the Senate, Jamaica, West Indies. Dr. Burnett is chair of the Department of Advanced Nursing Education, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies, Mona.

The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing has selected three fellows from southern states to participate in its Geriatric Nursing Research Scholars and Fellows Program: Christi Deaton, PhD, RN, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University, Atlanta, GA; Lisa Onega, PhD, RN, FNP, Radford University School of Nursing, Roanoke, VA; and Elaine Amelia, PhD, RN, CS, GNP, Medical University of South Carolina, College of Nursing. Dr. Amella has the additional honor of being designated a Merck/Hartford Institute Fellow.

Michael Desjardins, LPN, who graduated in May with an associate degree in nursing from Salt Lake Community College, Salt Lake City, UT, was elected president of the National Student Nurses Association. He is now a student in the BSN completion program at the University of Utah College of Nursing. …
