The Value of International Cooperation. (Vice President's Vista)

The Finland ACEI Branch considers their main challenges to be developing and supporting children's well-being, as well as influencing educational policy and supporting teachers' professional work. In November, Finland ACEI held a conference to which they invited some teachers from Estonia. At that conference, the discussion focused on the threats to and opportunities for children in everyday life, how to support our children through education, and future challenges in education. We concluded that while international interaction offers a lot of information and a base from which to evaluate our own societies and their educational systems, specific actions to develop children's lives take place on a national level.

Finland ACEI has set up committees to prepare declarations and deliver them to the decision makers in society. In Finland, we believe that children's welfare is a common interest--children and education are not separate from other policymaking and they are not only teachers' or parents' issues. Children and children's issues are part of the political decision-making process. Nowadays, Finland ACEI is focusing more and more on the national issues, and we think ACEI must continue to be active in influencing society and policymakers.

Involvement with ACEI has led to many friendships for the Finnish ACEI members. …
