DEAR ISGS MEMBERS:

I suspect that you share my belief that general semantics offers invaluable tools for making personal and professional choices, a practical "process for living and making decisions" that works. In these uncertain times, we cannot overestimate the importance of clear thinking. Our informal e-mail survey of members suggests that you value and use general semantics, and that you read and value ETC. To expand public awareness and use of general semantics, we must continue publishing ETC and Society books, conduct workshops, and offer useful aid to educators. We have capable members who can do this, but unfortunately not the resources.

Recently, I wrote to many of you with an invitation to contribute to an ISGS Endowment Fund. About half of those responding pledged a specified sum for 10 years, while others left the time-period open. To date, we have $9,823.62 in a restricted savings account and long-term pledges totaling $64,400. This falls considerably short of our goal for the endowment fund. We need additional memberships, revenue, and pledges to sustain our Society.

We have begun the process of grant-seeking, but securing funding from foundations takes time, and we cannot expect this to meet short-term financial needs. …
