In Finland, we are successful in many fields of education. According to international research, the best readers in the world were found in Finnish primary schools. Finnish teachers have worked very hard to get to this point. Thank you, teachers, you have done great work!

Environmental education is an important topic; issues concerning sustainable development are integrated into the curriculum, and its principles are implemented into everyday life in the schools. For example, in Finnish schools, you never see disposable dishes used and thrown away as you would in many countries. Saving the environment is highly valued among youngsters.

In spite of the many achievements of Finnish society, support for the family remains problematic. Many parents are not fully able to handle the responsibility of raising their children and being involved in their education. The demands of work seem to increase every year. Parents have less and less time and energy to concentrate on their children. In Finland, we realize this is a growing problem, but do not agree about how to manage it. We know that we need the entire society to support parents. …
