From the Chair

CODES has enjoyed a tremendously productive year with many successful programs and publications. At the ALA Midwinter Meeting, the Dual Assignments Discussion Group invited Melissa Stockton of CARL to discuss the complexities of consortial database purchasing. Continuing their traditions of hard work and service to the profession, the Notable Books Council and the Reference Sources Committee published their lists of notable books and outstanding reference sources in American Libraries. Many of the notable authors were featured at the Literary Tastes Breakfast at Annual Conference. The liaison with the User Committee saw its "Guidelines for Liaison Work" published in RUSQ, and Materials Reviewing is developing its successful preconferences into a publication, How to Write (and Read) Reviews. Following successful "town meetings" on the forthcoming Guide to Reference Sources, Reference Publishing Advisory will be applying this format to other programs.

At the ALA Annual Conference, the Computer-Based Methods and Resources Committee mounted a discussion session on E-monographs, while four other groups presented formal programs.
