In April, the ISPN membership approved a Board proposal to create a new division, Adult and Geropsychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (AGPN). Since then, the AGPN leadership has been developing a mission statement and reviewing potential projects. Suffice it to say, we are only in the beginning stages of strategic planning; more information will be printed in the next issues of ISPN Connections and this column.

How did this new division come to be? Personally, I think it speaks a great deal to the commitment the ISPN leadership has shown to its members to be innovative and inclusive. Over the last 3 years, the ISPN Board, Membership Committee, and staff have fielded questions from adult and geropsychiatric-mental health nurses who didn't quite know where they fit in the current ISPN structure. Eighteen months ago, the Board created a task force to evaluate whether people were feeling excluded, and if they were, what could ISPN do to include them more effectively.
