RUSA presents two workshops on Friday, January 24, 2003 during ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. Business Librarianship 101: Core Competencies for Business Librarianship (organized by BRASS) will provide an overview of business librarianship followed by sessions covering the core skills needed for effective reference, instruction, collection development and outreach services. The workshop will also address the shortage of trained business librarians and tactics to counter this trend. Speakers include: Gary W. White (Moderator), Pennsylvania State University; Lisa O'Connor, Kent State University; Irwin Faye, Chicago Public Library; Glenn McGuigan, Diane Zabel, and Becky Albitz, Penn State University; Jennifer Boettcher, Georgetown University; Michael Oppenheim, UCLA; and Christine Le, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: Discovering the Past through International Records (organized by the History Section) will be held at the the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the largest genealogy center in the mid-Atlantic region, will host this workshop.
