The Liber generations is a biblical poem in rhymed hexameters on the subject of the genealogy of Jesus, thought to have been composed in the mid- to late eleventh century, and preserved in two manuscripts of French or German provenance. Manuscript H (Heidelberg University Library, Cod. Sal. IX 15), on which this edition of extracts (860 of the full total of 1,611 verses) is based, has interesting English connections not noted by the author of the recent manuscript catalogue (who also dates the manuscript rather differently) and is notable for containing extensive interlinear and marginal glosses such as might have been used by a master in teaching Latin. …
