The Nürnberger Marienbuch is a prose compendium devoted to the life of the Virgin Mary from the late fourteenth century, strongly associated with the great Dominican centre in Nuremberg (if not actually composed there), but transmitted in a single copy preserved as part of a collection of interesting similar material from the convent of Poor Clares in that same city. The text is structured according to the life of Mary, with eight interpolated sermons on her nativity, the annunciation to Mary, the nativity of Christ, Mary's sorrow on Easter Saturday, her death and assumption, her virtues, and her mercy, as well as prose renderings of Latin sequences in her praise, and an extensive appendix with 102 miracles after her death, followed by a commentary on the Ave Maria, the commentary on the Magnificat by Heinrich von St. Gallen, and prayers.
