In Memoriam: Cynthia L. Peterson

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that the most remarkable woman I know, Cynthia Peterson, my wife and your colleague, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2006, from complications related to her courageous battle with cancer. I was at her bedside as was my daughter and son-in-law.

Dr. Cynthia L. Peterson joined the faculty of Texas State University in 1993 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 1999. Dr. Peterson held a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin (1993), a Master's in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University (1975), and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of San Diego (1973). She began her career as a high school librarian in Destrehan, LA and then moved to Carver High School within the ninth ward of New Orleans. It was there that she developed the interest for working with older students who struggled with literacy that became the focus of her career. …
