The last three years in the life of our journal have been marked by a number of key changes.

Starting with the first issue of 2002, Population is now published in both French and English. All articles are translated into one or other language and published simultaneously in the French version of the journal (Population-F) and its equivalent English version (Population-E).

Population is the only fully bilingual scientific journal of its kind in France. Its production has called for major new investments and unfailing commitment on the part of everyone involved. In practical terms, our task is now to produce two journals instead of one. Successful transposition of texts from one language into another calls for original texts of a standard high enough to pass the test of translation, and for close attention to translation quality to ensure faithful interpretation of the original.

In 2004, a new section devoted to the demographics of different regions of the world was launched. Edited by Dominique TABUTIN, it aims to make a world-wide tour of demographic trends over a period of five years. …
