This book provides a systematic review of research pertaining to predominantly medically-based obesity treatment and prevention interventions.

Chapters 1 and 2 set the foundation for the rest of the book. In Chapter 1, the authors define and discuss obesity, its prevalence, causes, and associated risks specific to adults and children. An international overview of obesity intervention programs is then followed by an overview of obesity's economic costs. Chapter 2 provides a thorough explanation of the methodology used to create this systematic review.

Chapter 3 summarizes the evidence pertaining to obesity prevention specific to adults and to children and adolescents. Chapter 4 is a presentation of the numerous adult-relevant treatment interventions, including those pertaining to alternative medicine. The challenges associated with weight loss and its maintenance are also discussed. Chapter 5 provides similar information but specific to children and adolescents. The quality of life (QOL) of obese people and the impact of surgical and non-surgical treatments on QOL are presented in Chapter 6. The 7th chapter addresses the effects of obesity treatment on specific morbidities and the 8th chapter provides an economic evaluation of various treatment methods.
