Craig Bradley, editor, The Rehnquist Legacy. Cambridge University Press. 2005. $80. Billed as the first legal biography about a Supreme Court justice, that is, a biography devoted entirely to assessing ajustice's impact on the nation's highest court and the development of constitutional law, this book is an intensive examination of Rehnquist's 33-year legacy. It is written by a group of legal scholars, each of whom is a specialist in the area covered by his or her chapter.

Linda Greenhouse, Becoming Justice Blackmun: Harry Blackmun's Supreme Court Journey. Henry Holt and Co. 2005. $25. Justice Blackmun wrote numerous landmark Supreme Court decisions, including Roe v. Wade, and participated in some of the most contentious debates of his era-all behind closed doors. In this book New York Times Supreme Court reporter Greenhouse draws on Blackmun's extensive archive and his private and public papers to reveal the backstage story of the Court.
