At the end of the editorial for the previous issue of School Libraries Worldwide, I announced the decision made by the International Association of School Librarianship Executive Committee Board in Hong Kong in July 2005 that School Libraries Worldwide would become an open-access online journal, beginning if possible with the January 2006 issue. I noted that the expertise of IASL Webmaster Anne Clyde would be invaluable to the Editorial Board of School Libraries Worldwide and to the Executive Committee of IASL as we embarked on this new venture. I also noted that it was a great relief to me to know that I would have Anne's support and involvement in the content as well as the technical aspects of the first issue of our open-access online journal.

This was not to be.

Anne Clyde had a heart attack on Sunday, September 18, 2005 and died. Anne's contributions to the field of school librarianship are countless. Anne was the IASL Webmaster. She designed and maintained the IASL Web site, School Libraries Online, for over a decade. Anne also started the first IASL-LINK listserv. She was a member of the School Libraries Worldwide Editorial Board and served as Theme Editor for Volume 5, Number 1,1999, "Learning from Our Past."

Anne was planning to work with me on the theme section for this issue. As Chair of the IFLA Section of School Libraries and Resource Centres, she saw the theme for the section's Open Session at the 2005 IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Oslo in August 2005 as one that would be of great interest to IASL members. …
