Had it come sooner before the anticlimax that was the G8 meeting this July, we might all have been a bit more excited about this book. As it is, we now have hurricanes and earthquakes to keep our attention and, as we all know well, they have nothing whatsoever to do with global inequality ... have they?

As Archbishop Tutu points out in his foreword, this issue can 'easily lead to shrill political rhetoric'. I am sure that those who know me would feel this a very poignant statement, so I will endeavour to remain apolitical.

The six-page contents list may seem intimidating, but, though it is thorough, this is certainly no weighty tome, and the endless division and sub-division makes the content very accessible and the book very useful. MacDonald has managed to successfully tame a whole world of issues.

Aside from an annoying propensity to talk about everyone in the third person "The author would like to draw the reader's attention to ..." Don't tell me what you'd like to do, just do it. If I don't like it, I'll put the book down! - the book is very well written and enjoyable. …
