I, see ALE 72; on vols II and III, see MÆ 74), devoted to Marco Polo's travels across the Mongol Empire of Kublai Khan. This is, of course, for the general reader, the most intriguing segment of Marco's description of the world: his travels take us from Tibet to Beijing to Burma. This new volume is as meticulously edited and carefully presented as have been the earlier volumes. The text itself is based on British Library, Royal MS 19 D. 1, and there is a clear, concise discussion of the (highly complex) manuscript tradition, and an invaluably complete list of manuscript variants which permit the reader to track the writing and rewriting of this immensely popular text. …
