Exploring International Themes: The Australian Experience

EDITORIAL

FOUR YEARS AGO, the Journal devoted an issue to papers presented at the International Allied Health Meeting in Telford, England. Last year, we devoted another issue to international research issues. In another, we published presentations from the third Hispanic Conference in Puerto Rico. As a result of these initiatives, there has been an upsurge of interest in the Journal by allied health professionals in many countries outside of the United States. Currently, approximately 20% of manuscripts submitted have come from the international health care community. A majority of these manuscripts have come from Australia, and we are continuing to develop strong ties with many of the universities in that country. This issue of the journal continues the international theme. It is devoted to articles submitted from our Australian colleagues.

Australia faces many of the same health care issues as the United States. In many cases, Australians approach certain issues in the same way that we do; in others, they take a different perspective. …
