Well said - and the only regret is that it has taken both the scientific and practitioner communities far too long to put the weight of their formidable talents and expertise into addressing this admittedly complex issue. Fortunately, welcome news is at hand, both in the form of this book as well as in the CJPH special supplement on social inequalities and health (Reducing Health Disparities in Canada, Volume 96, Supplement 2, 2005).

This volume features a series of articles compiled from the International Journal of Health Services. It builds upon a previous volume, The Political Economy of Social Inequalities: Consequences for Health and Quality of Life (2002), covering the more recent period of 2002-2003.
