This book fills an important gap in the study of chivalric fiction. As far as content is concerned, Lucia Megias groups the works studied into three categories. The first two categories deal exclusively with the Amadis cycle and the Palmerin cycle. A third category covers lesser-known works of chivalric fiction. The fruit of long (doubtless often frustrating) hours of labor, the catalog covers the following libraries, all located in Paris: the Biliotheque Nationale de France, the Bibliotheque de (Arsenal, the Bibliotheque Mazarine, the Bibliotheque de Sainte-Genevieve and the Bibliotheque de la Sorbonne. The catalog is preceded by an introduction (62 pp.), the thrust of which is a history of the collections in these prestigious libraries. The introduction concludes with a list of criteria for the catalog. For each entry Lucia Megias provides details on the internal and external description of the book, a description of the frontispiece (often with an accompanying illustration), descriptions of woodcuts and marginalia, and details on the type of binding and the current state of preservation. Also included, where possible, are bibliographical references relevant to each entry and notes on the location of other copies of the same text.
