Bridge to the Future

Danny Thomas established St. Jude Children's Research hospital in 1962 when survival rates for some forms of leukemia were a terrifying four percent. Today St. Jude has raised those survival rates to 90%. Fundraising supports the hospital's mission to provide free cutting-edge care to patients from around the world. In 2004, Danny Thomas' daughter, Mario Thomas, established Thanks and Giving, a campaign that encourages shoppers to buy from retailers allied with St. Jude, especially during Thanksgiving.

We stand on the bridge between our first century and our collective future. Let us respect the extraordinary lessons from our past and express our thanks by allowing those lessons to shape our present and revitalize our future.

When the Romans constructed bridges, the engineer was required to stand under the bridge when the scaffolding was removed. The engineer would be the first to know if the bridge was sound.
