ANYONE who fills in their own tax form will be thinking... "I really don't like doing this."

Well, Jane Vass obviously isn't one of those people. She seems to relish the complexities of Capital Gains, VAT, Trusts and so on, and perhaps more importantly, to communicate her understanding in a straightforward manner. This is helped by the consistent structure, which involves 'bite-sized' sections, a logical flow of dependent issues and the 'Tax Planning Hints' at the end of every chapter. The occasional 'common mistakes' section is also useful, and produced quite a few private blushes as I recalled past blunders!

However, in reviewing this book, I became conscious of the intensely personal nature of 'doing' your tax return. This also meant that I was searching for relevance to my own particular circumstances, and the Review could have been coloured by this: in other words, if it's good for me, it must be good! …
