Welcome to the October, 2003 issue where JAME celebrates another milestoneits first special theme issue with Guest Editors. Out theme for the Fall issue is "A Look Back Through Management History," and our Guest Editors, Dan Wren and Shawn Carraher, have done an outstanding job of assembling a group of papers on a wide variety of management history topics. Dan and Shawn's introduction to that group of papers follows this message.

In addition to the theme papers, the October issue has two Executive Interviews supplied by our outgoing Executive Interview Editor, Kerry Carson. I want to take this opportunity to thank Kerry for all of his outstanding work on our behalf. Happily, Kerry will continue to be on our Editorial Board and we are all looking forward to working with him in that capacity. Please note that Jonathon Halbesleben from the University of Oklahoma has also joined our Editorial Board.

The first Executive Interview looks at the energy exploration industry through the eyes of Greg Elliot, President and CEO of Workstrings, LLC located in Lafayette, Louisiana and is written by Joel Authement. The second focuses on B. Thomas Golisano, founder and CEO of Paychex and a 2002 independent candidate for Governor in the State of New York. In that same year, Forbes named Golisano number one in its annual ranking of CEOs who "give shareholders the best return compared to their compensation."

Our Book Review Editor, Paula Carson, has assembled an interesting assortment of book reviews including reviews of McGonagle and Vella's Bottom Line Competitive Intelligence, Couglin's The Rise of Women Entrepreneurs, and Mai and Akerson's The Leader as Communicator. Strategies and Tactics to Build Loyalty, Focus Effort, and Spark Creativity.

Finally, our Student Perspective Editor, Barry Bames, has chosen three doctoral student papers for this issue. …
