In less affluent countries, many children die of communicable and tropical diseases, mostly preventable, and also due to lack of urgent medical treatment. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has been playing a significant role in rescuing these children. This pocket book contains pearls of wisdom on disease management for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals, who work with limited financial and personnel resources, in many African and Asian countries. I was impressed to see that the WHO is moving away from using the term 'Third World', as the term is detested by the younger generations in those countries because of its denigrating connotations. Although the guidelines given in this booklet are applicable in most areas of the world, the expensive treatment options are not described, as these may not be affordable in some countries. …
