IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW EDITOR FOR THE JOURNAL

Beginning in 2007 Anglican and Episcopal History will have a new editor. He is Professor Edward L. Bond, 902 State St., Natchez, MS 39120, email: edward.bond@email.aamu.edy and EdwardBond@email.msn.edu, Telephone: (601) 445-9366

Commencing 1 January 2007 all manuscripts should be sent to Professor Bond and not to John Woolverton in New Hampshire.

In the March and June issues of the journal there will be further information about the new editor.

NELSON R. BURR PRIZE FOR 2005

Each year the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church awards the Nelson R. Burr Prize to the author of the most outstanding article in the last published volume of Anglican and Episcopal History. This prize honors the scholar whose two-volume A Critical Bibliography of Religion in America (Princeton: Princeton University Press. 1961) and other bibliographic works constitute landmarks in the field of religious historiography.

Following the recommendations of the Burr Prize Committee (Alan Hayes, Gardiner Shattuck, and Thad Tate), the Society decided this year to honor two articles, representing two very different historiographical genres. Joan Gundersen's "Building and Episcopal Church in a Lutheran Town" (AEH 74 [2005]:6078) was a local history originally constructed from civic and church archives, family papers, photographs, and oral interviews, and identifying the pronounced role of women in the early years of a small congregation. Peter Iver Kaufman's "Putting Elizabethan Puritans in 'The New Paradigm'" (AEH 74 [2005]:158-79), by contrast, was an analysis of recent historiographical trends in a major period, working from numerous significant studies. …
