On 6th October 2006, representatives of the world's oil and gas industry gathered in Almaty, the commercial capital of Kazakhstan, to attend the leading KIOGE conference and exhibition. During this high profile event, the British Ambassador to Kazakhstan, His Excellency Mr. Paul Brummell, opened the doors of his residence to host the Kazakh oil and Gas Interest Group (KOGIG)'s first members' event in the city and the first with the participation of representatives of leading Kazakh businesses and authorities.

Ewen Mackie, Chairman of the Institute, joined the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Mr. John Reynolds, and honoured guests at the event which focussed on the progression of increasing numbers of Kazakhstan nationals into senior engineering and management positions, and concentrated on the role of training in this process.

HMA Paul Brummell welcomed presentations by the Directors of Worley Parsons, BG Kazakhstan, KCA (Kazakhstan Contract Agency), ESS, New Leaders and the Institute of Administrative Management.

Marking the launch of the New Leaders' eLearning programme -The IAM Level 3 International Certificate in Administrative Management (contextualised for Kazakhstan), the lAM's Chairman Ewen Mackie observed that:
