Apr. 16: Iran pledged $50 million to the Palestinian Authority (PA) in response to the decision by the United States and the European Union to cut off aid to the new Hamasled government. Hamas officials placed the government debt at $1.7 billion and stated that $107 million per month was required to keep the administration running. [BBC, 4/ 16]

Apr. 17: The government of Qatar announced it would donate $50 million to the Hamas-led government of the Palestinian territories. The money represented full payment of Qatar's share of the £55 million pledged by Arab countries to Palestine in March 2006. [BBC, 4/17]

Apr. 19: Japan announced that it was cutting off aid payments to the Palestinian Authority. Japan had given over $800 million to the PA since 1993. [BBC, 4/19]

Apr. 21: Palestinian Authority President Mahmud 'Abbas forestalled a move by the Hamas-led government to create a new volunteer security force comprised of members of militant groups and led by Jamal Abu Samhadana, who was wanted by Israel on terror charges. 'Abbas said that the decision was unconstitutional and moved to nullify it. [BBC, 4/21]
