Apr. 30: Masked youths attacked a Bahrain! police vehicle with Molotov cocktails in Abu Subai, west of Manama. Two policemen were injured and their vehicle was gutted in the attack. The attack came after a sound bomb went off in the upscale al-Adliyah district of Manama on April 28, and was believed to be connected to unrest that began in December over the detention of a Shi'ite cleric, Shaykh Mohammad Sanadi. May 7: The country's largest opposition movement, Al-Wifaq Society, launched its campaign for scheduled elections in November with a call for reforms and benefits for Bahrain's poorest citizens. The campaign was launched shortly after Al Wefaq reversed its decision to boycott the polls. [GN, 5/7]
