Bibliography of Australian Literature and Criticism Published in North America, 2005

Article excerpt

The annual Antipodes bibliography attempts to provide a thorough listing of resources either published or distributed in North America during 2005 that focus on Australian literature or Australian authors. Since the bibliography concentrates primarily upon resources made available in the United States and Canada, the "Annual Bibliography of Studies in Australian Literature" (Australian Literary Studies) should be consulted for additional materials which have been published in Australia and Europe. Every attempt is made to include materials by or about new Australian authors, along with the more established writers. However, most children's literature, romance and fantasy genres tend to be excluded from the bibliography.

Section 1 of the bibliography focuses on individual Australian authors who have either had works published in North America during 2005, or if published elsewhere, have been reviewed in 2005 North American sources. Occasionally, materials published in years prior to 2005 are also listed, but must have current reviews or commentaries to be included. Primary materials for each author are listed first, followed by any interviews or secondary resources that focus on a particular work or works by that same author.

Section 2 is restricted to secondary sources only. These materials may deal with a variety of cultural issues, such as Aboriginal, historical and language studies, or may be any general literary criticism on Australian or Commonwealth literature. In all cases, pertinent reviews or commentaries will follow the main entry.

Some of the sources used to compile this bibliography include the MLA International Bibliography, AustLit, Book Review Index, WorldCat (OCLC), Dissertation Abstracts, Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL), Expanded Academic ASAP, and ProQuest Newspapers & Research Library Complete.
